Most of the people are unaware of the various building codes in Australia. We must be familiar with these codes in order to build an energy efficient building.

So, what is Section J Compliance?

It is a part of building codes that deals with energy efficiency for class 2 to class 9 buildings. The assessment is done to find out whether a building plan meets with the DTS (Deemed To Satisfy) provisions. It is a mandatory process in achieving an energy efficient building and describes the level of performance delivered by the materials, designing, components and constructional methods.

The assessment indicates the materials used in the building and will point out any additional requirement to meet the minimum standard.

Who can conduct Section J Assessment?

Assessors offering Section J Compliance must have formal qualifications in engineering, architecture, and building designs. In addition they must be certified to examine thermal performance of a building and should have years of experience in the field of building construction.

Assessors who prepare the Section J Assessment are not legally responsible for the work performed by the local builder. Thus, the assessors are considered to be experts in such situations as they examine all the constructional aspects of a building.
